Research Support Tools

The Central Library provides access to various research support tools for faculty, PDRF, research scholars, students, and staff to assist in their research activities. Below is the list of research support software:

Tools for Literature Searching

Multi-disciplinary Databases:

  • Scopus: Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, including scientific journals, books, and conference proceedings. It allows users to search nearly 39,000 journals and conference proceedings in a single window.

Subject-specific Databases:

  • SciFinder-n: SciFinder-n is a research discovery application that provides integrated access to references, substances, and reactions in chemistry and related sciences.
  • MathSciNet: MathSciNet contains over 3 million items and 2 million direct links to original articles in more than 3,000 journals from over 250 publishers.

Tool to Write Your Research Report Correctly

  • Grammarly: The Central Library provides access to Grammarly, which helps review spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity, engagement, and delivery mistakes in English texts. Users can request an invitation link by contacting: service.lib@iiserbpr.ac.in.

Tool to Avoid Plagiarism

  • Turnitin Originality: The Central Library has subscribed to Turnitin Originality, an online plagiarism detection and academic integrity platform widely utilized in educational institutions. Its primary role is to ensure the originality and authenticity of academic work, particularly in research and written assignments. Turnitin employs sophisticated algorithms to compare submitted documents against an extensive database containing academic papers, publications, and other online sources. Students are required to send the request along with a soft copy of the document (i.e. thesis, dissertation, manuscript of article, assignment, etc.) to be checked in PDF, DOCX file format through their Supervisor (Email to service.lib@iiserbpr.ac.in). The Library has created separate accounts for the faculty, PDF, and research scholars in Turnitin. The users who have credentials to access Turnitin may directly access it by visiting https://iiserbpr.turnitin.com/.

Tools for Citation & Reference Management

  • Mendeley and Zotero: These reference managers allow users to automatically cite sources, generate bibliographies, and switch between over 8,000 citation styles. Both web and desktop versions are available for free.
