The library conducts user awareness training programs regularly on the databases and tools subscribed by the Central Library.
The following training sessions were conducted recently.
Workshop on "JoVE: Bringing Science to Life for Students!!": The Central Library, IISER Berhampur, organized a workshop on "JoVE: Bringing Science to Life for Students!!" on 21st March 2025 at the Permanent Campus. The session introduced participants to JoVE (Journal of Visualized Experiments), a peer-reviewed video journal that enhances the understanding of experimental techniques. Ms. Abigail De Souza, Curriculum Specialist, JoVE, conducted the session, covering topics such as JoVE resources, library-facilitated access, interactive navigation, tools and features, and an overview of publishing with JoVE. The workshop included live demonstrations and a hands-on activity, followed by a quiz, where the top three winners received Amazon vouchers sponsored by M/s. MyJoVE Corporation.
MyLOFT User Training and Awareness Session: The Central Library, IISER Berhampur, conducted a training session on "MyLOFT User Training and Awareness Session" on 27th February 2025 at the Permanent Campus in hybrid mode. The session introduced MyLOFT (My Library On Fingertips), a platform for accessing, organizing, and sharing digital content and e-resources subscribed by the library. It allows users to download and save content for offline reading and access it via the web portal or mobile app on iOS and Android devices. Mr. Vaibhav Goel, Sr. Product Trainer from Eclat Engineering Pvt. Ltd., led the session, covering login procedures, MyLOFT web and mobile app walkthroughs, and hands-on demonstrations. The session also featured a quiz with Amazon vouchers for the top three winners, sponsored by Eclat Engineering Pvt. Ltd.
Empowering Research and Publication Outputs using Grammarly: The Central Library, IISER Berhampur, conducted a training session on "Empowering Research and Publication Outputs using Grammarly" on 13th February 2025 at the Permanent Campus. The session introduced Grammarly, a writing tool subscribed by IISER Berhampur, highlighting its key features such as grammar and spell check, clarity suggestions, plagiarism detection, citation assistance, tone enhancement, and AI-powered writing support. The resource person, Mr. Binoy Halam from Total Library Solutions (India) Pvt. Ltd., covered topics including Grammarly’s features, AI-assisted writing, citation audits for plagiarism prevention, and integration with MS Word, Gmail, and browsers. The session also featured live demonstrations and a quiz, with Amazon vouchers awarded to the top three winners, sponsored by TLS (India) Pvt. Ltd.
Online technical demo session on Editage Plus and PaperPal Prime: The Central Library, IISER Berhampur hosted an online technical demo session on Editage Plus and PaperPal Prime on 26th September 2024 from 4 PM to 5 PM. The technical team of Cactus Global demonstrated various features of AI tools. Editage Plus provides comprehensive support for researchers by offering expert editing, journal submission assistance, and research visibility services. With flexible plans, it streamlines the publishing process and helps maximize the impact of scholarly work. Paperpal, an all-in-one AI writing assistant is tailored specifically for academicians. With real-time, subject-specific writing suggestions and in-depth checks, Paperpal empowers faster, responsible writing, reducing review time and enhancing institution's publication output. Paperpal helps to write, polish, and prepare for submission in half the time, making it the top choice for academicians. A free trial access to these tools was activated for all IISER Berhampur Researchers from 27th September 2024. This trial period will be active until October 31, 2024.
Online Refresher Training Programme on Turnitin Originality: The Central Library of IISER Berhampur conducted an Online Refresher Training Programme on Turnitin Originality on 20th August 2024 from 3 PM to 4 PM. Mr. Akshay Prasanna, Senior Onboarding Consultant (Asia-Pacific), Turnitin was the resource person for the training programme. The library has subscribed to Turnitin Originality, a widely used plagiarism detection tool that helps educators and students maintain academic integrity by checking written work for originality. It compares submitted documents against a vast database of academic sources, publications, and internet content to identify potential instances of plagiarism. In his presentation, Mr. Prasanna briefed about the following topics, like creating folders & similarity match enablement between the folders, accessing the folder settings, interpreting the similarity report, difference between similarity and plagiarism, contract cheating, and authorship investigate and capabilities.
Online interactive training session on JoVE: An online interactive session on “JoVE’s Classroom Teaching, Training and Learning resources” was organized by the Central Library, IISER Berhampur, in collaboration with JoVE on 14th May 2024 from 3 PM to 4 PM. JoVE (Journal of Visualized Experiments) is a platform offering a wealth of video-based scientific content access to thousands of high-quality, peer-reviewed videos spanning various disciplines. It provides step-by-step demonstrations of experiments and protocols that can greatly enhance learning and understanding. Ms. Abigail De Souza, Curriculum Specialist, JoVE was the resource person of the training session. She briefed about the overview of JoVE, JoVE Videos, different JoVE tools such as JoVE Playlists, Textbook Maps, JoVE Quiz, Embedding JoVE Videos into courses, etc. An online quiz was conducted at the end of the session and three winners received Amazon Gift Vouchers from JoVE.
Online training session on IEEE Xplore: Central Library, IISER Berhampur and IEEE jointly organized an online training session on IEEE Explore on 23rd April 2024 from 3 PM to 4 PM. The resource person of the workshop was Mr. Raj Mahapatra, Training Manager, EBSCO Information Services India Pvt. Ltd. He briefed about various search techniques to identify new research areas, tracking research trends, publishing, receiving journal issue alerts, etc.
Online workshop on “Research Productivity and Measurement using Scopus" and "Elsevier's Funding Institutional”: An online workshop on “Research Productivity and Measurement using Scopus" and "Elsevier's Funding Institutional” was organized by the Central Library, IISER Berhampur, in collaboration with Elsevier on 16th April 2024 from 11 AM to 12 PM. Scopus is a comprehensive abstract and citation database that provides access to a vast collection of scholarly articles, conference proceedings, and patent records. Funding Institutional provides a holistic view of the research funding landscape. It combines over 40,000 active and recurring funding opportunities with information on over 8 million awarded research grants from a wide range of government and private funders around the world. The resource person briefed in detail about the research workflow, journal metrics and how to choose Journals using Scopus and also demonstrated the features of both databases live to the users.
